Breast Feeding & Sleep Support

As a mother of two young children, I understand the challenges that are unique to parenting babies and young children. I offer a range of supports for feeding challenges, sleep challenges and unsettled infants.

I am an NDC accredited provider (Neuroprotective Developmental Care - also known as the Possums approach) and use their gestalt breastfeeding approach in my consultations. This is a whole-picture approach to the feeding mother and baby and can assist with a range of issues, including nipple pain, fussing at the breast/breast refusal, low supply, fast let-down/high supply, engorgement and weaning from using nipple shields among others.

The possums sleep training approach doesn’t promise to have your infant sleeping through the night, but aims to make nights feel more manageable without excessive night waking. It is aligned with an attachment-parenting approach and includes promotion of breastfeeding and safe co-sleeping depending on the family’s preference.

  • Feeding support

Using the Possums (NDC) gestalt approach to breastfeeding, together we can improve your breastfeeding experience. Issues addressed can cover infant weight gain concerns, nipple and breast pain, poor latch, low supply, “over-supply” and fast let-down, engorgement, tongue-tie assessment, breast refusal or back arching, weaning from nipple shields.

  • Sleep Support

The possums approach to sleep relies on a balance of your infants sleep/wake cycle and an understanding of their natural sleep needs. The possums approach can be used for all young children and is a gentler approach than traditional sleep training and a good place to start. For older children, I can provide additional support for alternative sleep approaches as appropriate/required.

  • Parental Mental Health Support

Having small children in your care is extremely rewarding; it can also be extremely stressful. 1:3 new mothers experience perinatal anxiety and depression and 1:10 new fathers/non-birthing parents experience perinatal mental health disturbances.

Using extensive experience in helping people with birth trauma and parenting challenges, I can help your transition to parenthood.
